I gave myself 8weeks to get ‘shredded’ it was the most intense 8weeks training and dieting Ive ever done

I have always been a keen on sports especially rugby and come from a big rugby background. I played since the age of 4 and have represented my town, district, county and then went on to represent the Midlands for a season. Unfortunatly my amature rugby career came to an end in 2007 after I tore my ACL and I decided to hang up my boots. At the age of 21 I still had a very competitive streak and a love for strength and fitness.

I continued with my strength training and turned down the chance to have an operation on my torn tendon and instead decided to focus on lower body stability and hamstring work in the gym.

The gains I made in the gym from month to month were enough to keep me motivated and keep me going back for more. A few of the guys down at the gym I trained at would often tell me I was looking good and should enter in to upcoming bodybuilding competitions but I had never seen myself as a ‘bodybuilder’ or thought that I was anywhere near big enough or lean enough to compete with the guys that you would see in the magazines or on television.

It was only after going to see a friend compete in a local show that I actually plucked up the courage to enter into my first show. I gave myself 8weeks to get ‘shredded’ it was the most intense 8weeks training and dieting Ive ever done. I learnt so much about diet and nutrition over those 2 months, looking back at it now I dont know how I survived it! I totally over trained, over dieted and didnt have one single cheat meal but the end result was 1st place in a line up of 10 other lads. It was a huge learning curve for me but it got me involved in this great sport and I have no plans to give it up any time soon!
